The Construction Process

Network Design and Fielding

Make-Ready Engineering and Pole Attachment Requests

Make-Ready Construction

Last-Mile Construction

Customer Installation

The fiber optic process begins with meticulous design and fielding, where network engineers map out the most efficient and reliable routes for fiber installation. This step involves site surveys, assessing terrain, infrastructure, and customer needs. Using advanced software and on-site evaluations, teams create blueprints that balance technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and long-term scalability. This foundational stage ensures a seamless transition to the installation phase, laying the groundwork for a robust and future-proof network.

Once the initial design is complete, the focus shifts to Make-Ready Design and Pole Attachment Requests. This stage involves preparing utility poles and infrastructure to safely support new fiber optic lines. Engineers assess existing poles for capacity, clearance, and structural integrity, identifying any modifications needed. Permits and attachment requests are submitted to utility companies to secure approval for the work. This step ensures that all equipment complies with safety standards and is ready for the installation of fiber optics, setting the stage for a smooth deployment.

In the Make-Ready Construction phase, the groundwork is laid for fiber installation. This involves modifying utility poles, clearing obstacles, and ensuring proper spacing for fiber cables. Crews may need to replace poles, adjust existing lines, or add equipment like brackets and anchors. This step ensures the infrastructure is safe, compliant with regulations, and capable of supporting the new fiber network. Make-Ready Construction is critical for creating a strong and reliable foundation for the next stages of deployment.

The Last-Mile Construction phase brings the fiber network directly to end-users. This step focuses on extending the fiber optic lines from main distribution points to individual homes, businesses, or buildings. Crews install cables on poles, underground conduits, or through direct fiber drops to customer locations. Precision and care are essential to ensure seamless connections and minimal disruptions. Last-Mile Construction is the final physical step in delivering high-speed, reliable fiber internet directly to customers’ doorsteps.

The final phase, Customer Installation, connects customers to the fiber network. Technicians install the necessary equipment, such as optical network terminals (ONTs), inside the home or business, ensuring proper signal reception. They test the connection, configure devices, and provide any needed training on using the service. This hands-on step ensures a seamless transition to high-speed fiber internet, offering customers a reliable and enhanced online experience.
